I really like pitting one product another to see which one is better, if one is better. And because I know lots and lots of folks are interested in knowing if there’s a less expensive alternative to a high-end product, I figure posts like these are appreciated.
And like my Undressed vs. NAKED post, I’m pitting another palette against Urban Decay’s NAKED Palette, although this time it’s the NAKED 2 Palette. Unlike my last post, the palette I’m comparing with NAKED 2 isn’t as good of an alternative as MUA Makeup Academy’s Undressed is to Urban Decay’s NAKED.
NYX has released quite a few various “nude” type eye shadow palettes. My favorite of these palettes is their Caviar & Bubbles, which I think is also labeled as Champagne & Caviar. It’s the closest of the NYX palettes to resemble Urban Decay’s NAKED 2 Palette. While most folks compare the two NAKED Palettes as the original being warm and the second being cool, NAKED 2 has quite a few warm-tone eye shadows. The same is true of Caviar & Bubbles, it’s a good combination of warm and cool-tone eye shadows.
Caviar & Bubbles comes with 10 eye shadows while NAKED 2 comes with 12. The color selection between the two palettes is pretty different, although I think one could survive with one palette or the other. Caviar & Bubbles is made up of very soft and subtly shimmering eye shadows, while NAKED 2 has more bold shades with a lot more glitter. Between the two NAKED Palettes, I find NAKED 2 overall to be bolder and more glittery. Not to say that NYX eye shadows aren’t good quality for their price and normally I would prefer Urban Decay eye shadows over NYX eye shadows, however in this specific case, I prefer NYX’s Palette in Caviar & Bubbles. The eye shadows are very smooth and soft, easily blendable and wear wonderfully. The eye shadows in NAKED 2 are chunkier, which I assume is because of the glitter in them. They tend to clump and while the NYX shadows are a bit powdery, I prefer that over the chunks of Urban Decay.
Aside from the differences in colors and textures, the price also differs considerably between these two palettes. NYX’s Caviar & Bubbles is available for $8.50 from Nonpareil Boutique and Urban Decay’s NAKED 2 is available from Urban Decay for $50. Granted, NAKED 2 comes with a double-ended brush and a lip gloss but sometimes not everyone can use those extras to justify spending that much money on one item.
As much as I like NAKED 2, I prefer the color selection and eye shadow texture of Caviar & Bubbles. I definitely find myself using Caviar & Bubbles more often than NAKED 2, although I use NAKED more than both. It’s my favorite.

Do you have either palette? If so, which one is your favorite? Please share your thoughts by leaving a comment!
